Nuremberg and Munich, 27 March 2023 – The go-ahead has been given for the first construction phase of a battery- and hydrogen storage-protected photovoltaic power plant that will make Nürnberg Messe’s energy supply climate-neutral by 2028.
The VODASUN Group from Munich – known for its innovative and sustainable solar solutions for the commercial sector – was awarded the contract for the construction of a photovoltaic power plant by the Nuremberg trade fair centre as part of a public, Germany-wide tender with the aim of achieving a climate-neutral energy supply by 2028. As a partner of the trade fair, Heitec AG was responsible for organising the tender.
Last Friday, a press conference was held for the first construction phase of the photovoltaic power plant, which was attended on behalf of the VODASUN Group by Managing Director Frank Pistorius, Christoph Glammert as Head of Sales, David Florez Meier, Head of Technology and also the Managing Directors of Nürnberg Messe Prof. Dr Roland Fleck and Peter Ottman.
Guests such as Dr Markus Söder, Minister President of the Free State of Bavaria, Albert Füracker, Minister of State for Finance & Home Affairs, Marcus König, Lord Mayor of the City of Nuremberg & Chairman of the Supervisory Board, also attended the Nuremberg Messe press conference.
Record on the roof: Nuremberg Exhibition Centre receives Bavaria's most powerful photovoltaic system
The planned photovoltaic system on the roofs of the exhibition centre in Nuremberg is not only huge in size, but also long-lasting: it is to be combined with storage systems so that there is also enough energy at night and in winter. Over the next five years, 21,000 photovoltaic modules are to be installed on a roof area of 75,000 square metres. With this first construction phase costing around 15 million euros, it will achieve an output of around 9 megawatt peak – of which 4.5 megawatt peak will be installed by VODASUN. When completed, the overall project is expected to have an output of around 20 MWp (megawatt peak) – roughly equivalent to the electricity consumption of a small town with 20,000 inhabitants.
Frank Pistorius, Chief Executive Officer of the VODASUN Group, says: “This project is another milestone for us and our mission to drive forward the energy transition. We look forward to making an important contribution to energy supply in the region with our commitment to sustainability and innovation. We would like to thank everyone involved and look forward to realising this exciting project!”
Prof Dr Roland Fleck, Chief Executive Officer of NürnbergMesse, adds: “It will be the most powerful rooftop photovoltaic system with state participation in Bavaria. It’s all about sustainability and energy independence. That’s why we decided some time ago to align our actions with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs for short. At the same time, we have set ourselves a clear goal: A climate-neutral energy supply by 2028!”.
