Solar modules put to the test: the best models compared 2024
30 January 2024 - Reading time: 8 minutes
The trend towards energy independence is omnipresent and is becoming increasingly important. This is particularly evident in the growing popularity of solar systems, which enable solar energy to be converted into usable electricity. This trend is further reinforced by government incentives and subsidy programmes that provide financial support for the installation of photovoltaic systems, making them more attractive for private households and companies. In addition, technological progress is helping to make solar panels more efficient and cost-effective, which further reduces the barriers to investment.
But which solar module is best suited for the installation of a photovoltaic system? Our focus is on providing you with a detailed overview and comparison of solar modules from different manufacturers. We analyse factors such as the energy yield, durability and quality of the solar modules.
Our aim is to find the customised solution that best meets your individual requirements. With this approach, we want to ensure that you can maximise the use of solar energy to best meet your needs for sustainable and independent energy generation.
Trinasolar in focus
Trinasolar is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of photovoltaic modules. With sites in over 30 countries, including Germany, where its production facilities are located, the Chinese company is one of the largest manufacturers in the industry. Trinasolar offers comprehensive expertise in the field of innovative technologies and high-quality products.
According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), Trina Solar has been categorised as a Tier 1 module manufacturer. This classification confirms the outstanding quality and reliability of the products.
The Trinasolar Vertex S+ module
The Trina Vertex S+ represents a product from the leading Chinese manufacturer Trinasolar and is characterised by impressive features. With a peak output of 440 watts peak and an efficiency of 22.0 %, this model sets standards in the industry.
Particularly noteworthy is its excellent product and performance guarantee of 25 years each, as well as a rated output of 89.4 %. The temperature resistance of the model is outstanding and the performance tolerance is only +/- 2.5 %.
Another striking feature of the Trina Vertex S+ is the use of N-Type TOPCon cell technology, which ensures outstanding efficiency and minimises power loss from the cell.
Meyer Burger in focus
Meyer Burger is a Swiss photovoltaic manufacturer that has increased its specialisation in the production of solar modules in recent years. One branch is located in Germany with a production facility in Freiberg.
Meyer Burger is classified as a Tier 1 module manufacturer according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF). This classification emphasises the guaranteed high quality and reliability of the products manufactured by the company.
The Meyer Burger White Module
The Meyer Burger White has an output of 385 watts peak and an efficiency of 20.9 %.
Meyer Burger’s solar modules have a product and performance guarantee of 25 years. After 25 years, the modules continue to generate at least 92% of their original nominal output.
Particularly noteworthy is the patented SmartWire Technology (SWCT(TM)), which minimises shading of the solar cells. This enables the cells to absorb more solar energy than comparable solar cells and reflects the quality of the modules.
The Meyer Burger White is named after the monocrystalline film produced in Germany, which is used as the standard backing film.
LONGi in focus
LONGi – a Chinese manufacturer of photovoltaic modules – focuses on innovative technology, quality and reliability. The company has an international presence and has locations worldwide, including in Germany, where one of its production sites is located.
Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) has recognised LONGi as a Tier 1 module manufacturer. This award emphasises the first-class quality and reliability of the products. The extremely efficient solar modules from LONGi offer a reliable solution for sustainable energy generation
The LONGi Hi-MO 6 module
The HI-MO 6 from LONGi impresses with its contemporary and elegant design. with an exceptional output of up to 435 watts peak and a module efficiency of 22.3 %, this photovoltaic model guarantees top performance.
The modules ensure reliable performance thanks to a 25-year performance guarantee with a nominal output of 88.9 %. As a result, they offer reliable and sustainable energy generation in the long term.
Price-performance: The best solar module
Following the presentation of the various manufacturers and their photovoltaic modules, we show here a direct relationship in terms of their price-performance ratio.
It is clear that quality is not necessarily associated with higher costs. In terms of performance, all three modules offer very good to outstanding quality, which perfectly represents the performance spectrum of these solar modules.
Acquisition costs vary depending on the country of manufacture. Modules from Germany are more expensive due to higher production costs than modules from other countries. To provide a direct comparison, the following is a list of the price-performance ratio.
Trinasolar Vertex S+ | Meyer Burger White | LONGi Hi-Mo 6 | Excellent | Very good | Good |

Focus on the most powerful solar modules
The performance of the different modules is a key feature when purchasing a photovoltaic system. Among the top models in our comparison is the solar module from Trinasolar “Vertex S+” with 440 kWp. The impressive product and performance guarantee of 25 years and an existing rated output of 89.4 % are comprehensively outstanding.
It is closely followed by LONGi’s “HI-MO 6” with a comparable output of 435 kWp. This manufacturer has also proven to be a solid choice, as these modules have also been installed at our renowned customers, such as Messe Berlin.
Both modules have sufficient power for everyday use in a single-family home. In conjunction with a battery storage system, surplus energy is also stored and can be utilised at later times, such as in the evening or during the winter months.
